It's Your Money.

Hang On...

Don't Let Your Wallet
Out of Sight!

The Texas Legislature convenes next week with YOUR money stockpiled.

Do you really want a smaller more efficient government?

Should Texans ask for rebates?.. or just let the extra $15 Billion ride?

Are you ready for a huge explosion in state government?.. 626 bills are filed already.

Make yourself be heard.  Send us your thoughts on what to do with the extra money.

It's really your money!

Check out the bills filed in the House of Representatives.

Check out the bills filed in the Texas Senate.

Gambling, taxes, penalties, restrictions, advisory boards!  New fines, expansions, minimum wages, prisons, sex, obesity and tuition.  You will find more excitement in the state capitol than on Wisteria Lane!

  • "With a state budget surplus of $15 billion, some legislators and bureaucrats have spent that surplus several times over," said Venable.  "We want to make sure that in good economic times, the state does not overspend.  We consider the budget surplus as tax dollars that should be returned to taxpayers."

Peggy Venable, Americans for Prosperity

  • "...the $15 billion surplus lawmakers will have in-hand this session should be used to provide an additional 25-cent tax rate reduction. With a stroke of the pen, Texas taxpayers can be given needed relief. "

Marc Levin, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility

  • "Those who foot the tax bill have only those they elect to protect them. By comparison there is a veritable army of lobbyists doing all they can to badger elected representatives into giving up more of our money. All too often, those in office have proven weak and have succumbed to the urge to spend."

Byron Schlomach, Ph.D.,  Texas Public Policy Foundation

  • "But legislators must resist the temptation to view the state's budget surplus (which could be more than $15 billion) as mad money. They must instead return what surplus there is to the taxpayers, preferably in the form of property tax relief."

Tent Jails Could Offer Counties Cost Savings

State Rep. Phil King, R Weatherford, has prefiled legislation making it legal for sheriffs to house inmates in tents indefinitely.

Under current state law, jail tents can be used as a housing solution for no more than three years.

Tent jails are not new. Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the self-proclaimed "Toughest Sheriff in America," has kept inmates in tents in Maricopa County, Ariz., for several years.

At a Fever Pitch

Dallas Morning News

Beyond the speaker's race, the GOP's narrowing majority will shape the House. Four years ago, when Republicans took control, they had 88 seats to the Democrats' 62.

Today, the GOP has 80 and the Dems 69 (with one race still undecided).
