The Media | Out of Touch With Texans

By James Bernsen                               Prop 2

Lone Star Report

Tuesday’s overwhelming victory for traditional marriage should send a number of shockwaves across the political landscape. One point that was exposed clearly was the complete disconnect between the editorial boards of Texas newspapers and the people.

Every one of the large papers, and most of the mid-sized ones, threw their hats in the ring in opposition to Proposition 2. Against this monolithic bloc, Texans were adamant.  They took those editorials and threw them back in the scribes’ faces, with 76.2 percent of the voters giving the thumbs up to traditional marriage.

Virtually every conservative politician has been skewered and stretched on the rack of the editorial pages. Time and time again, the media have endorsed against the conservative agenda. And time and time again, the people of Texas have ignored them and voted their conscience.

A Frustrated Mom Comments:

My Son Got Left Behind Twice
by Melanie Watson

Is there a Thinking Cap in the House? In the Senate?  In a Court? There seems to be a huge shortage of thinking caps in our area.  My next question would have to be..... “Got Civil Rights?”

My son has Aspergers syndrome. It is affectionately called the “geek syndrome”. He has a raw IQ score of 122 and looks like any mainstream kid. That’s where he went wrong. Looking “disability free and having and IQ of 122”, just means we can “ignore your disability, if we want to”.  It does not matter to this TEXAS school district that he went to first grade twice, struggles in second, cannot read or write at grade level.  They repeatedly insist there is “no educational need for change” and “no Aspergers syndrome”.

How could they know? The district alters grades, changes test scores, withholds evaluations (conducted by their own staff), tests kids without parental consent, (trying to get a diagnosis they liked-ignoring all the others) to save the district a few bucks. According to the school counselor and other admin officials “ our district just won’t recognize a fad diagnosis”. HUH?  Their own staff diagnosed the symptoms of Aspergers before I knew my son had it. Why would they withhold that information  from me?                                                                   <continued>

Ricky Carter will stay in Jail

One More Year

By Janelle Shepard

Many of you know about our battle to keep a drunk driver in jail for his complete sentence.  This DRUNK killed 4 innocent teenage girls in a horrendous accident on Dec. 19, 1999.  A plea bargain resulted in Ricky Carter being up for parole every year after serving a small fraction of his sentence.

Public outrage has thankfully helped other district attorneys prosecute drunk drivers to the full extent.  Here is a comment by Tarrant County Assistant DA Mollee Westfall.

PLEASE pressure your local DA to prosecute drunk drivers for the maximum sentence allowable.
