Lost In Translation - The Great Hispanic Myth

Jorge Ramos

According to William Frey, writing about the Minority Myth for American Demographics magazine, “A large share of the Latino community is under age 18, and among adults, they are less likely to be citizens, to register to vote and to vote.” The shocking statistics reveal that out of every 100 Hispanics in the U.S., only 40 are of voting age, 23 are registered to vote, but only 18 will show up at the poll to make their voice heard.

Compare that to the Black vote which rallies 37 out of 100 African Americans nationwide to the polls, more than twice that of Latinos although there are more Hispanics in the overall population. Univision commentator Jorge Ramos said that Bush will win if he can get 3 out of the 10 Latino votes; translation: 5.4 votes per 100 Latinos nationwide or more than the 35% of Latinos Bush wrangled in Texas during the last presidential election.

Progressive Gay Channel A Cultural Turning Point

The Gay Pied Piper Cher

We have come a long way since Ellen DeGeneres outed herself on her sitcom after which advertisers pulled away under threat of boycott by millions of God-fearing religious conservatives. It’s obvious we have reached a cultural turning point now that LOGO TV will launch on February 17, 2005, making it the first cable/satellite channel dedicated to serving the 1-2% of the nation that practices deviant homosexual behavior. Although debuting in homo-friendly Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York; expect it to hit Dallas, Houston, and Austin markets before 2005 ends.

The debut which hit 15 million homes is “a channel whose time has come. Finally every voice will be accepted in the media landscape,” said Brian Graden. Whatever. We know that it’s all about the bejamins. It seems that the same advertisers who pulled away from overtly gay programming in the past are now salivating over the idea of targeting the gay micro-community whose spending power is estimated at $485 Billion (with a capital B).

Shows you can expect are Family Outing starring the gay pied piper Cher and daughter Chastity plus My Fabulous Gay Wedding which will follow a gay couple throughout the planning stages of their “wedding” all the way to the “altar.” Great programming worth skipping the dinner table so that you can break out the TV dinners (joking) to gather around the "boob" tube. Block this channel with your v-set or else you’ll have a lot of explaining to do to your prepubescent kiddo.

Intelligent Design: The Darwin Debate Continues

I.D. is the rival argument to Evolution first made by British philosopher William Paley in 1802 in his book Natural Theology and now supported by the Discovery Institute. The institute has supporters in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Alabama that back the “teach the controversy” approach to this subject.

Evan Ratliff writes, “Proponents of intelligent design studiously avoid the G-word and never point to the Bible for answers. Instead, ID believers speak the language of science to argue the Darwinian evolution is crumbling. The basic idea behind winning the public debate over the matter is to present “reasonable doubt” to the claims of evolution and therefore allow for a plurality of theories being taught.

Why does this matter? Because many argue that people can derive their world-view based on whether our existence as humanoids is due to an astronomical impossibility or at the hand of some otherworldly intelligence.

How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must) : The World According to Ann Coulter

Ann Coulter

Forget about reading a dry volume by Dick Morris exposing Clinton for what we all know he is, lying over-sexed liar with a panache for feeling our pain. Instead pick up Ann’s new book, How to Talk to a Liberal (If You Must): The World According to Ann Coulter.

As we’ve been accustomed, Ann continues with her sharp, sarcastic, and gut-bustingly funny book that tells it like it is. For example: “don't be defensive, always outrage the enemy, and never apologize to, compliment, or show graciousness to a Democrat.” She even takes on "weak and frightened conservatives" craving liberal approval.

This book is a compilation of many of her columns, both published and those rejected by spineless editors. After completing the book, I half wished that it were Ann instead of President Bush debating Kerry, whom she calls a gigolo.
